I'm back in Oregon territory. Researching platforms for group meetings online, and so far I'm leaning towards google hang outs. If anyone has any opinions on platforms for meetings I'd love to hear them. Please note, I'm not including Skype as an option for group meetings, as it requires a paying membership and cannot accommodate as many callers at once. If anyone has a platform for me to research, please say so and I will get to it.

Also, I dont want to abandon the idea of in person meetings, but I think we all know that time, motivation, and gas money are luxuries we don't all posses. My hope is that by meeting online a few times, it will lead to us to meeting in person. Baby steps and what not.

Timely. I've been doing the same research, and I'm coming to the same conclusion, leaning towards Hangouts. Here are some other options I've come up with.

Oh, return key ending posts, how I love thee. Here are the options I've come up with, you've probably come up with many of the same;…………. For my profession, I like GoToMeeting, and they offer a free service for teams of up to 3 I've also been using HipChat for a number of years on various projects, it's completely free group chat that's great for collaboration, or even hosting "chat" meetings. I prefer voice for meetings, and HipChat for collaboration/messaging.

I am on board for whatever is decided by the group. I have very little knowledge on any of these programs. Thanks for doing the research.

Hi Everyone - I've not posted before but have been reading all your posts (I'm a bit "posting shy"). I am in the same boat as eaf with regard to these programs and am also sending thanks to you for the research.

Will anyone be attending the Alternative Views Conference in Portland in April?

Thanks for the down low Choncho! I am going to do everything in my power to be there.

Thanks Choncho! I added the Conference to our events at the bottom of the page. If I can scrape the cash together, I will be there for sure.

Here is some info on google hangouts for you guys to review, I'm really leaning towards this platform for our online meet ups. It will also allow group chats in a meeting room, as well as video chats of up to 10 at a time. You can always cover you camera and essentially be on the call with audio only, for those shy ones among us. Additionally, if we have educational meetings we can broadcast our conference video call on youtube for other circle members to watch later, and maybe draw new allies in if they stumble over it on youtube. Hang out info: "there are currently two ways to hang: text chat (in something like the old GChat but now with groups) and ‘video calls’ (what many have come to think about as ‘hangouts’)…
In the text version you are in a ‘group chat’ with whoever has been invited to that ‘hangout’, whether or not you joined the ‘video call’ aspect. Worth noting, you cannot just have ‘audio’ without the video, but you can easily swicth off your camera."…

You are welcome. I hope to be going myself as some of my favorite truth tellers are going to be there.
